Lasting Happiness

Having read so  many articles about the pursuit of happiness I learnt that you don’t chase happiness rather you chose and decide to be happy every day . Looking at life, then happiness should be in all we do and experience.Happiness is accepting every situation and learning from it.
Happiness is looking at the positive side of everything that happens.
Happiness is giving purpose to what we do everyday.
Happiness is being committed and enjoying our work.
Happiness is creating miracles in solutions.
Happiness is having positive people around you.
Happiness is being present in every situation.
Happiness is the ability to fall, rise and move on.
Happiness is finding joy in serving others.
Happiness is being able to let go.
Happiness to me is a way of life : Live happy every day.

Living in Victim Mode

Most people in this life yearn to be successful.Unfortunately most people wan to stay in their comfort zones. They turn into complainers. They start living in the victim mode.
They blame their lousy job, their unfair boss, the lousy economy, corrupt politicians, and greedy business men. They virtually complain about everything doing nothing about anything.
Success is for those who try, they face disappointments as they try ,failures have regrets because they never acted or even tried at all.
Get out of your comfort zone and do not play a victim to life.

Appreciate the journey

The joy of success is not so much the end result but the journey itself.
As the adage goes the journey of a lifetime begins with one step.
As we work towards our goals we experience many moments, both happy and sad.
We encounter many challenges, we jump many walls, we cross many bridges ,
We interact with people from all walks of life some pleasant ,others not so very welcoming;
All these experiences make the journey worth while till we cross the finish line.
Lets appreciate the journey that success is.

It is not good for all our wishes to be filled; through sickness we recognize the value of health; through evil, the value of good; through hunger, the value of food; through exertion, the value of rest.

Be kind to yourself.

Think about what you need most, and then do it.
Is it a cup of tea/coffee/glass of wine, a walk, quiet time alone, quiet music, a little rest, or reading your favourite book? Just do it.

Take that “care-break" and take care of you for a brief moment. Those little moments with ourselves calms us down and heals our inner self

All of us at some time have felt discouraged, depressed, had the blues and felt like miserable failures. Those times when you feel like nothing is going right; nobody is listening; and nobody cares. That feeling that you are doing things the right way yet everythig is fall apart.
I just realised that the  greatest producer of discouragement are  broken dreams - broken promises – failed goals, devastating results, eroded hope. Discouragement sets in when we get tired (fatigue), when we are overwhelmed and when we are scared of failure.
But in this life there is always a way out. When those negative thoughts of impeding failure come, stop and re-organize the whole process,re-evaluate its value and impact and go down memory lane (remember)  to see that all the success in the past were preceded by instances of failure , thus do not stop trying until you get there.

Recently I have heard my peers (ladies) complain that one of their friend was sidelining them since she felt she had become ‘classy’. Being the observant person , I asked them what is ‘classy’ according to them and I realized all they thought was class was wrong. To me being of class doesn't  mean being well bred and having money. It's more in the attitude than the clothes.
A woman with class carries herself high, but isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. She dresses well and is discreet. She is well-spoken, and mannered, gracious, modest, and has a presence about her that has nothing to do with what label she is wearing or what car she drives. A classy woman is someone who respects herself enough to do what she wishes , takes pride in who she is and what she looks like.

It’s how you act, how you carry yourself, how you express yourself and how you live your life that determines class. You got to have interesting thoughts, opinions, views and being able to share and challenge ideas and be an engaging company
Class, is uniqueness, knowing you, being able to consider all points of view and form an intelligent response. I think class, is your own style, how you go about things, how you deal with chaos. Perception, intuition, integrity, generally the all rounded modest woman is what I would call classy..
Hence a classy woman has the following characteristics:

Style – a classy dresser, adorns business/casual look simple well fitting dress clean cut in Simple straight colors like white, black, blue;well natural cool colours.

Feminine in nature – a classy is proud to be a woman. She recognizes the differences between men and women ,appreciates them and is able to fall in love and enjoy great romance.

EleganceElegance is the manner in which a woman carries her self in all aspects like they way she speaks, movement and body language, tone of voice, the way she stands /sits, and responds to other people around her. Elegance is a piece of work, traits you acquire from birth naturally, interpersonal skills stem from upbringing, from friends and acquaintances .Thus one who admires elegance must work at it.

Hygiene – A classy woman gonna be clean, smells fresh, does not belch  in public. This is easy to attain.

Subtlety–Subtlety implies a degree of moderation, lack of flamboyance, lack of impulse to attract attention, and generally not trying too hard. A subtle woman has style but she doesn’t look like a designer model; uses perfume and make up in moderation; talks just enough  and has a pleasant laugh;simply said her confidence sells her .

Modest and Humble –A classy woman lets her actions speak out for her.

Pride – a classy knows which battles to pick and which ones to walk away from.  She is not abusive or mean , knows there is always a better way to deal with nasty situations. She is calm and collected.

Being a classy woman is indeed a piece of work, you do not wake up one day and decide to call yourself classy because you started earning that big salary,or got a rich husband nope, you work to being that classy woman who will appeal and attract all.

Over-Thinking or Thinking

Worrying is thinking too much over nothing.
When you start having sleepless nights over a situation and instead of your trail of thoughts giving you answers and clarity ,what you get is confusion and anxieties then  you are over thinking.
Normal thinking is relaxing; it relieves you and gives you more insights and clarity.
Better still check if what you are thinking about is helping or hurting.  If it's helping, keep going. If  it is hurting change direction and re-evaluate yourself.

Being in touch with yourself:

Just being in touch with how we are feeling, whether feeling numb, overwhelmed, bored, disjointed, anxious, depressed, eager, excited, happy, relieved, pressured, passionate, gratified , optimistic, joyful ………..
Being connected to our bodies, mind, soul, emotions, moods, feelings, thoughts, beliefs, aspirations …
Being connected to your inner self creates a balance on how we connect to the outer world.

Whats your purpose in life?

This got me thinking and as i read i came across this insight.

Your purpose in this lifetime is to do the thing that you love. The key to your life is not that you settle for the “safe”thing that will bring in the money.

The key is to turn and do what you really love. Fall in love with an idea.

That’s your life! That’s your purpose

The power of touch:

It is the most personalized form of communication:

A hug; a handshake; putting your arms around someones shoulders; holding hands; a pat on the back, taping someone on the lap-that touch:

It is a communication beyond the spoken word that we all yearn and hunger for.

Even the overrated body massage gets its therapeautic aspect from the pleasure of touch.

Touch someone today even a small pat on the back; you will have met a great need of affection

''Achieving goals by themselves will never make us happy in the long term; it’s who you become, as you overcome the obstacles necessary to achieve your goals, that can give you the deepest and most long-lasting sense of fulfillment.''

Anthony Robbins
Motivational speaker and management consultant

Friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed.
They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.

As  i grow older now i realise that people are in our lives for a reason and hence a season . At primary school i had many friends, high school i made many more, college even more, now that i am out here in the world as a responsible adult i have met many more . Out of all these lists very few exist in my life anymore ,we have lost touch because we changed,we pursued different courses and each is chasing their dream.

Every time i feel lonely, every time i am challenged by something in my life there is that small voice that talks to me and tells me you need a close friend to confide in,a true friend to listen to you, a real friend who will understand and stand by you no matter what; that person you are vulnerable to because they will not judge you.

As i grapple with building my circle of friends i realise that unless i am that true and real friend then i will not have friends.

Be a TRUE  friend to have REAL friends.

Today is not yesterday.

Most of the time we sleep running a film of all that happened in a day. When we wake up the film continues.
Imgaine a life where you took a day a time, every day is special, with a new date, new occurences, you meet new people, visit new places, new events happen, something new is invented, new tasks come up,new employees join an organisation, bosses change, new babies are born, every new day comes with everything new.
Thus let yesterday be the past, today the present we focus on and tomorrow a future yet to happen.
Living a day at time makes life simple and sweet

Emotional intelligence

At the verge of a break down,my boss one day told me,your IQ is very high one of the best ,but your problem lies with how you handle your emotions. She went ahead to explain that researchers, writers and scholers are giving alot of emphasis on emotional intelligence as a key player for success in all facets of our lives including careers. This gave me a spark and i would say i am better now,not yet there but the journey is great and with awesome results.
Although  intelligence quotinet(IQ)  is important to success in life, emotional intelligence is key to relating well to others and achieving your goals. Many people believe that emotional intelligence is at least as important as regular intelligence, and many companies now use EI testing to hire new staff.
Emotional intelligence is an awareness of your actions and feelings – and how they affect those around you. It also means that you value others, listen to their wants and needs, and are able to empathize or identify with them on many different levels
What's your emotional intelligence?

Try this on for size today just as an experiment.  Write down all the big things you have to do and resolve to finish them by lunchtime.See what all the big stuff is that you have to do and just see if you can do it all by lunchtime so you have the rest of the afternoon to wind down, relax, catch up on all those other little things.

If you put a time limit like that, in essence, cutting off your work day by half, you might be surprised at just how productive you are as the thought of a relatively stress free afternoon entices you.Maybe you finish right before lunch and it's quality work.

Maybe you can't finish it all before lunch but maybe you do finish it one hour after lunch. The point is, we often think we don't have that much time to do stuff, but we do,and the only way we'll know is if we shorten the amount of time we give ourselvesso we can see what kind of horsepower engine is really under our "productivity hood".

Try it and see what comes about for you.
